Builders Club
What is Builders Club? Builders Club is similar to Key Club, except it is for middle schoolers. Unlike the names suggest, Builders Club isn’t about building things, just as Key Club isn’t about collecting keys. According to Kiwanis Builders Club, the definition of Builders Club is “a place for middle school students to lead and participate in group discussions. Advisors can encourage meaningful and positive discussions by introducing “accountable talk.” It’s a way of sharing ideas and opinions in a respectful way while strengthening individuals’ communication skills.” When asked why Builders Club is important, Key Club member Srvanthi Vanga said, “Builders club gives students a head start when they are young, so that when they do get older, they are prepared to help their community.”
Key Club members have been trying to put together a Builders Club for middle school students for next year. In order to get this club certified as a club, they need at least 30 students interested for next years. Those who are interested must be in sixth or seventh grade, since eighth graders will be freshman next year and will be able to join Key Club. Next year, the meetings will be held in Mrs. Curran’s room, who has graciously volunteered to chaperone the club. The goal is to have at least 30 students’ interested members for next year by May 1. Key Club members really want to make Builders Club happen, but they cannot without the help of students.
Builders Club is meant for students who wish to strengthen their voices, and allow them to get their ideas out. If any students are interested, please contact Brianna Perkins at Perkins.110@wright.edu.
