The Month for the Mentally Ill
Mental illness is what hundreds, thousands and even millions of Americans suffer from, with even mre people suffering in the world. A mental illness is what makes someone mentally unstable. It can give someone much harder challenges in life than a mentally healthy person. There are hundreds of different mental disorders including: bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety, depressions, and hundreds more. Some of these disorders are incurable. During the month of May, to show these people that we recognize the daily struggles they go through, hundreds and thousands of people are gathering around in green, to support all people dealing with mental illnesses.
Every year during the month of May there is a Mental Awareness theme. This year, the theme is #mentalillnessfeelslike. On social media, people are using the hashtag to speak up and share their experience about mental illnesses. This hashtag is a great way to clear out the negative attitude about being mentally ill. Instead, it lights up the topic with positivity and gives the mentally ill confidence about themselves, by letting them know that they have people who are able to help, and people who can sympathize.
Using #mentalillnessfeelslike isn’t the only thing that happens during the month of May. The awareness month also has celebrations. Each week they pay attentions to different addictions, disorders, and so on. This is a great month for the mentally ill. It’s a month that really shows the ill that they are not alone in the dark, and they are no different than the people who don’t go through the challenges they go through daily. Just because they have mental illnesses doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the same equal rights as us. This is a month that will really change the lives of hundreds and thousands of mentally ill people in the future.
Remember this: 6.7% of adults suffer from depression in America alone. Bipolar disorders subtracts 9.2% of the original lifespan of someone. Children at the age 4-17 deal with ADHD on a daily basis. Find a way to make a change and make these people’s lives a bit less of a challenge. Be the one to speak up about Mental disorders.
