Chapter One: The MisAdventure's of Middle School

Hello, my name is Emily A. Parker. I am 13 years old with brown hair and blue eyes. I guess you could call me a sassy nerd/geek, but I'm not big on labels. My mom and I just moved to Dublin, Georgia, where my mom was offered a job at a law firm.

Anyway, back to the point. I wanted to tell you about the worst day ever. The first day of middle school!

Now, you would think that the first day of MIDDLE SCHOOL would be pretty cool, but nooooooo not for me, not for Emily A. Parker!

Okay, so my day started like this.

I woke up to the obnoxious sound of my alarm beeping. I smacked the top of it three or four times until it FINALLY turned off. Looking at the alarm which read 6:11 a.m. I realized that I had exactly one hour and four minutes to get ready for the "Amazing First Day of Middle School", Yay (Note my sarcasm). I then got out of bed and walked down stairs to my dull kitchen. Boxes were still scattered everywhere from unpacking the dishes last night. I walked over to the cabinet and grabbed a dark blue bowl. I sat the bowl on the kitchen island located in the dead center of the room. I walked over to the cupboard rack, grabbed the rice puffs, and poured some into my bowl. Grabbing a small milk jug out of our black, shiny, yet expensive refrigerator, I poured half of what was a full milk jug into my cereal and decided to drink the rest along with it. I sat down on the stool at the island and stared blankly out of the window above the sink. The sky was dimly lit as the sun was trying to stretch over the horizon.

I heard running coming down the stairs; I looked back to see my mom in her work suit carrying her briefcase.

"I'm gonna be late," she said in a rush kissing me on the cheek while heading toward the front door.

"Have a good day at work!" I shouted.

"Thanks sweetie, have a good first day!" she shouted back running out of the front door and closing it behind her.

Once I was done with my cereal, I looked at the clock that was next to the living room entrance, it had read 6:23. Since I had time, I decided to take a shower before I had to walk to school. Where my mom and I had moved was literally just a block away from the middle school, so it was a big convenience since it only took me 5 minutes to get to school.

Once I was done with my shower and morning routine, I walked down stairs in my black and white striped shirt, navy blue skirt, and black converses. I sat down on my living room couch and sat my backpack right beside me. I grabbed my phone out of my side purse and seen that I had one new text. I went to my messaging and saw it was from my dad. It read:

From Dad

Received at 6:33 a.m.

Hey Em hope you have a good first day at school!

Love Dad.

I decided not to reply because what was there to say, and he was also probably already at work.

Seven minutes before I had to leave, I sat staring at the wall thinking about the events to come.

I wonder if I will make any friends? Of course I will, I meant how I can’t.

After arguing to myself about the possible pros and cons that might come today, I looked at the clock and saw it was time to start walking.

I got up off the couch, grabbed my book bag, and walked over to the door. I opened the front door and walked a few steps outside, turned around and locked it with the key that was hanging on my key chain that was placed around my neck.

I turned around and started walking to school.

When I arrived at school, I stood on the front lawn to see kids running around everywhere. Girls all standing in a group talking and giggling, and the guys all punching each other and horse playing.

Once I examined the place I said to myself, "Well, here goes nothin."
