What is Grey’s Anatomy and why you should binge watch it on Netflix?

If you love drama, relationships, and medicine, then Grey’s Anatomy is the show for you. Even if you aren’t interested in medicine, you should still watch Grey’s Anatomy. There are so many characters to fall in love with: a girl with father issues, a frat boy, a pretty blonde, a stubborn Asian, and a hopeless romantic. The show will make you laugh, cry, and hate Shonda Rhimes (the creator) 24/7. Grey’s Anatomy will make you love all the characters you love to hate, and then Shonda Rhimes kills them or sends them off into the distance. However, if you’re 11th grader, Anjali Phadke, you hate Meredith Grey.

For the 13 seasons that Grey’s Anatomy has been around, fans have been captivated by its powerful characters, tragic losses and medical inspirations. The show starts out with Meredith Grey, a newly graduated medical student, who starts her internship at Seattle Grace Hospital, where she meets new people, who later became her best friends. She finds love in an unexpected way, which then turns into a very complicated ordeal. The show started out with 8 main characters, and out of those 8, only 4 still remain. A fair warning: basically everyone on this show dies and most of the time, it’s not the patients that are meeting their tragic end. That’s why you should watch it. If you like crying, then you’ll love this show. As soon as you get attached to a character, they die. Usually in a tragic depressing way and you’re crushed.

But the thing that keeps fans going back to Greys is the sense of family the show portrays. The main character, Meredith (played by Ellen Pompeo), has been through a bad childhood, seen her mother attempt suicide and watched her die due to Alzheimer’s, found out her boyfriend was married (and the dog she bought to get over her married boyfriend got cancer and died), survived a bomb scare (in which she watched a bomb explode in the hands of a bomb squad member), briefly died from drowning and lost about 5 good friends. She also has experienced her stepmother dying, saw her husband get shot and almost died, had a miscarriage, was in a plane crash, got a C-section during a power outage, watched as her best friend moved to Europe, had to take her husband off of life support and was assaulted by a patient.

Yet through it all, Meredith Grey always has had her hospital family to bring her through the hard times. A key phrase in the show is “my person”. In the context of the show, “a person” is someone who is a forever friend, and no matter the distance or struggles, your “person” will always be there to lead you through the bad times and stand next to your side during the good ones. That’s what keeps fans so dedicated to the show. Grey’s gives a sense of hope, the feeling that no matter what your life is like, you’ll always have someone to lead through it. Grey’s makes us not all feel so alone in a world where it isn’t hard to feel lonely.
