Tips to Succeeding New Year's Resolutions

As the New Year begins, so do the amount of resolutions. It’s typical to start out the New Year with a goal in mind to strive to accomplish by a certain amount of time, which is usually by the following year. However, some people make their goals too unrealistic, or lose the same drive they had when they made their resolution. So, here are some tips to making sure your resolution can still be accomplished.

  1. Create a plan. This plan can include what you’re going to do each day, each week, or even each month, depending on what your resolution is. The best way to create a plan is on a calendar or writing down what you’re going to do. Also, creating an agenda for your plan could be beneficial.

  1. Ask for help. The best way to make sure your goal gets completed is to enlist the help of those around you. This can include friends, family, or even coworkers. Not only can they be a positive influence on whatever your goal is, it’s nice to know you’re not doing it alone.

  1. Adjust your goal. This mean that if you start to work towards your goal and realize it’s a bit impossible, adjust it. Don’t just give up on it. If you wrote down the goal, it obviously means you wanted to work towards it, so adjusting it a bit should be easy.

  1. Positive attitude. If all you ever think about is how you can’t do it, then you won’t be able to. Start each day with positive reinforcement from yourself. Putting sticky notes around the house can also help with this.

  1. Don’t regret. If you slip up while completing your goal, don’t regret it or start to feel bad. Just remember why you made the goal and start again.

Most of these can serve to help any goal in mind: such as read more books, eat more fruit, drink more water, quit smoking, etc. I hope this has been helpful to you, and good luck with your resolutions!
