DRSS Begins the Year with a Dance
On the weekend of Friday the 13th, DRSS had its first successful winter dance at Mangan Banquet Center, as a result of Key Club’s hard work and determination. With good music, dancing, and an off-campus location, people had a great time. Key Club treasurer, Anjali Phadke, said, “It’s amazing to know that this whole idea raised hundreds of dollars for charity.” The room was decorated beautifully with festive decorations and balloons. A great addition to the dance area was a basement where students were able to cool off, relax, and get something to eat. Not only did the students enjoy the dance, but a special guest visited, former Wellness and Fitness teacher, Ms. Tash. Everyone was overjoyed to see their former teacher again, some had a chance to catch up with her in the basement.
This year’s ice prince and princess was Cessi Jones and Cameron Harris, representing the freshman and sophomore classes. The reigning homecoming prince and princess from 11th grade, Adam Mitchell and Lauren Dalton, were 2017’s ice king and queen, representing the junior and senior classes. Ice queen Lauren Dalton said, “I found that [the winter dance] was very well done. Everyone in Key Club did a fantastic job creating and running it. I hope that they will try to continue with this event next year.”
Finally, a big thank you to Key Club, especially the Winter Dance leader Makalia Robinson, for crafting a wonderful dance and putting in time and effort necessary for making the first successful winter dance DRSS has had. Hopefully there will be many more in the future.
