The Flash

The Flash is a CW show developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns. It's based on the DC Comics character Barry Allen, also known as the Flash, a superhero able to move at superhuman speeds. The show follows Barry who works as a crime-scene investigator. As a child, his mother died in a freak accident involving what seems to be the impossible. His father was wrongfully convicted for his mother's murder, and this causes Barry to follow every new scientific advancement and urban legend, including the particle accelerator, a new invention by his idol, Harrison Wells.

When the accelerator is turned on, it causes an explosion and creates a storm. Lightning hits Barry, and after a nine month coma, he wakes up with the ability to run at superhuman speeds. However, he quickly learns that he’s not the only one who has gained powers. There are others like him called meta humans who use their powers to break the law. With the help from Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon, and Harrison Wells, Star Labs employees who attended to him during his coma, he begins learning how to use his powers and take down the rogue meta humans while still trying to solve the mystery of his mother's murder.

During the first season, Barry deals with the struggles of being in love with his best friend and adoptive sister Iris West while figuring out how to become a superhero. His personal problems escalate when Iris starts dating Joe West’s partner, Eddie. Barry's own relationship with Iris becomes rocky as the secret of being The Flash comes between them. On top of this, each week brings a new meta to take care of, including ones that can control weather, teleport, and turn into gas. Some of the more notable villains, known as the Rogues, include Leonard Snart (Captain Cold) and Mick Rory (Heatwave).

The mystery of his mother's murder slowly unravels as well as Barry unearths various clues about what really happened. Each clue leads him closer to the truth- one that involves his mentor Harrison Wells- who may not be as friendly as he appears. That doesn't mean that Barry is without other friends though. Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen, and John Diggle, all characters on the CW's Arrow, make guest appearances on The Flash's first season. They assist Barry not only by helping with metas, but also by being a superhero to speak to.

As the season progresses, old characters say goodbye and new problems arise, resulting in the inevitable cliffhanger ending of season one that makes us all grateful season two is available on Netflix.
