新年快乐!

On Thursday, January 27th, any students in the sophomore and junior Chinese classes traveled to Wright State University to take part in the annual Chinese New Year celebrations. Any students taking the CCP classes left early in the day and traveled to Wright State to take part in various learning activities including mixing radicals (basic parts of characters) to create characters and then putting the characters together to create different Chinese sentences. Participating students also played games such as bingo using Chinese characters. During these activities, students were required to speak 100% Chinese. The non-CCP students joined the others at a later time and were able to get their face painted, their fortune told or make various crafts.

The main part of the event were performances specifically dances by schools around the area. The sophomore CCP students performed first and danced to a Chinese song. After they had performed, kids from schools such as Richard Allen and Miami Valley performed their own routines. Some of the routines included acrobatics and traditional Chinese dance. During this time, students were able to eat Chinese lunch including lo mein with chicken and vegetables or vegetables and a pot sticker. After the various schools performed, students were able to see a Chinese magician and a Chinese face changer. Overall, the event was very fun for everyone involved and was a great way to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
