59th Grammy: My Review
To start off this year’s Grammy Awards, the superstar, Adele performed her hit song, “Hello.” After her beautiful performance, James Corden, the host of The Late Late Show, fell on his way to introduce the acts of the night. It was a “disastrous” beginning, but he is the only one he could fix the situation with a complex rap about all the great performances to come. (It really was a fake disaster to get the audience’s attention.) This epic rap was followed by Jennifer Lopez giving the first award of the night, New Artist of the Year, to Chance the Rapper who is the first only streaming artist to win a Grammy. (Streaming-only means that the music cannot be bought in stores, but it can only be bought online.) After this thrilling victory, Paris Jackson, daughter of the beloved Michael Jackson, introduced the Weeknd featuring Daft Punk to sing his hit song, “I Feel It Coming.”
Following this performace, the former band member of the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas, awarded Twenty-One Pilots without their pants on, the Best Pop Duo of the Year for their song, “Stressed Out.” The band members told an interesting story about their first experience at a Grammy Award show viewing when they did not have their pants on, so that if they ever won a Grammy, they would only be in their underwear. This prompted James Corden to introduce the next performer, Ed Sheeran to the crowd in his underwear as well. Ed performed his current breathtaking song, “Shape of You.” Followed by Ryan Seacrest introducing the collaboration between the pop artist, Lukas Graham, and the country artist, Kelsea Ballerini to sing their breakout songs, “7 Years” and “Peter Pan.” To end this string of performances, Mrs. Tina Knowles introduced her extraordinary daughter, Beyoncé, to the crowd. Like always, Queen B gave an exotic performance while pregnant with twins. At the end, she stated, “If we are going to heal, let it be glorious,” while receiving a standing ovation.
Furthermore, a carpool karaoke featuring JLO, Jason Derulo, John Legend, Faith Hill, and several more stars introduced the charismatic pop sensation, Bruno Mars. The lovely Mars sang, “That’s What I Like,” which everyone in the crowd seemed to enjoy. The fantastic country group, Little Big Town, introduced Katy Perry by singing her 2013 hit, “Teenage Dream.” Katy Perry sang her current chart topper, “Chained to the Rhythm.” She was transitioning around a set of moving pieces while singing her impressive new song. Afterwards, the country artist who won her first Grammy that night, Maren Morris, sang with the gorgeous Alicia Keys, the song, “Once.” This performance was very exciting to watch because it was the merge of drama and mystery.
Up next was James Corden encouraging the crowd to stay tune to the following performance with Adele paying tribute to George Michael. The performance was quite somber because the superstar died on Christmas Day unexpectedly. Adele wanted to make sure the song, “Fast Love,” was performed perfectly for George Michael, so she stopped and restarted to make the song perfect. Adele was a big winner of the night taking home, five total Grammies including for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year.
On a final note, toward the end of the evening, James Corden introduced the Time and Bruno Mars to pay tribute to the fabulous Prince. Bruno Mars performed Prince’s song, “Let’s Go Crazy” while he was dressed in a purple suit and a white shirt. During the performance, he used several of Prince’s moves and rocked his white guitar. Another interesting fact is that Bruno Mars is only 5’5,’’ and Prince had a short stature as well. The Pentatonix sang Jackson 5’s song “1 2 3.” The final moments of the night were memorializing the deaths of music industry people we lost in the past year. This year’s Grammy Awards were exciting, and it showed the future of the growing industry.
