A Rant

School

The epidemy of torture

For children ages 3-18.

The world’s way of telling us

We will never be good enough.

Overwhelming us

With assignments, projects and tests.

School

Where we work

For 15 years

Just to get into college

And then work even harder once we get in,

Just to prove our worth to the world.

Where our hopes and dreams are crushed

By the weight of society above our bones

And by the demeaning words piercing our hearts.

School

Where our lives begin and end

Within the blink of an eye.

Where we give up

On what we have wanted to do and be for years

Because we aren’t deemed “worthy”

By society, by our peers and by ourselves.
