7th Grade—A Time to be Alive

In 2012, 55 students traveled to the Dayton Regional STEM School to start their seventh grade year. This was a time when we weren’t teens yet; a time when we thought the world would end in December. It was such a time to be alive.

“I liked seventh grade because our class was smaller,” said Nicole Sword, junior NHS President. I would have to agree with Nicole. Even though we were extremely awkward preteens, we were all very close. Everyone was friends with each other. Even though the “cliques” had just started to form, we weren’t quite there yet.

Seventh grade was a time when we didn’t know who we were, what we wanted to do, and didn’t even have walls in the building. Our cafeteria was just an open space with chairs and tables. We had no idea what was going to happen, and none of us thought anything about not knowing. It was such a simple time. The only worries we had was trying to remember how to spell “Wednesday.”

So, for those who were here in seventh grade, would you want to go back? “I would like to go back to seventh grade. I liked the culture, and how close everyone used to be,” Devin Wade said. Brittney Lamb said, “I wouldn’t want to go back. Some of the people there didn’t care about their education, and now they aren’t here anymore.”

As for me, I would love to go back. Seventh grade was such a simple time. Rocket math and linear equations were the hardest part of the day. SATs and ACTs weren’t even a distant thought at this point. Now, we graduate next year. Our college applications are due soon. I wish we could just go back to seventh grade in STEM Foundations class where we used to have Powwows about just stating positive things about people in our class. Yes, the seventh grade was such a time to be alive.
