DRSS Teens Open Up- Balancing Relationships and School
A lot of teenagers get into relationships towards their later years of high school, specifically their junior and senior years. While relationships are a healthy social interaction, teens can get distracted with their relationships, and their school work can suffer. So how can students balance their relationships and their school work?
One thing that can be done is scheduling time, so that it is evenly divided between the relationship and the school work. The student should obviously place a higher priority on the school work, while understanding that appropriately scheduling time with the significant other can provide some relaxing time away from the stress of school.
Another thing that can be done is setting clear boundaries. These boundaries can be as simple as saying, “We won’t communicate between the hours of 10 and 12 pm on school nights.” This can help students to still remain focused on their work without the possible distraction of a significant other.
While relationships can be tough in high school, working through them and making mature decisions that benefit both parties can ensure that the relationship is healthy and is not disturbing academics too much.
