More Than Corn: Exploring Ohio

Believe it or not, Ohio has much more than just corn. There are a multitude of things to experience—from the wide range of people to every season in a timespan of two days. To put it in the words of Chris Kaempf, a junior at DRSS, “The people are interesting because we all have our own quirks.” For example, the people who live in Huber Heights are much different from those who live in other cities. Austin Davis, a junior, said “People who live in Huber Heights tend to be less talkative than someone in Oakwood.” Whether this is true or not, there seems to be a noticeable difference between people who live in different cities around Ohio.

Ohio isn’t really like anywhere else in the United States. Trent Truesdell, a senior, said, “I grew up around California, so living in Ohio is definitely different for me. I feel like I live in the middle of a forest all the time. Also, people always call it [drinks] “pop” instead of “soda”, so I knew something was weird—but it’s cool.” It’s true. Most people in Ohio do call drinks “pop.” There isn’t any real science behind this; it’s just regular life for an Ohioan. Did you also know that Ohio’s official state drink is tomato juice…? That is also weird.

There are also cool things to do around Ohio. For example, Wright Patterson Air Force Base. This is a place where people from all around the United States and world can come and see airplanes throughout the decades, along with simulators of what it feels like to be in specific types of planes. Another interesting place in Ohio is the Ohio Caverns. According to Ohio Caverns’ website, “The caverns remain a steady 54 degrees year round featuring some of the most unique formations in America.” This is definitely a sight to see when passing through Ohio. The Ohio Caverns are located in Champaign County.

As you can see, there are much more to Ohio than meets the eye.
